"Tessa Sandeman-Charles & Project Save5"

Teresa Sandeman-Charles organ campaign hits 10,000 target

Teresa - known as T - has reached her goal

A terminally ill woman who launched a campaign to get thousands of people to become organ donors has described the "emotional roller coaster" in reaching her 10,000 target.
Teresa Sandeman-Charles, known as T, was ecstatic to reach her goal and has vowed to keep the campaign going.
She started her project - Save5 - in 2011 after she was diagnosed with terminal lung disease.
She said: "The journey continues, it doesn't stop and it can't stop."
Using her own money to start the campaign, Ms Sandeman-Charles produced badges and uploaded videos to her website - all with the aim to get people thinking about organ donation.
She received an email every time someone went through her website to become a donor. When she learnt that she had reached her goal, she said she was both ecstatic and depressed.
"It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions," she said.
"I cried because three people die a day, and those people are one organ short of life."
Statistics from the NHS show that 97% of people would take a donor organ but 31% have signed up to become donors.
"Until we get the register up to 97% we will always have people dying needlessly," said Ms Sandeman-Charles.
