"New World Order Psychopaths In Jersey Could Move To Control Everything The People Do"
Smoking in Jersey homes
could be banned
Smoking in homes and cars could be banned under proposals being discussed by Jersey's health department.
The move to extend the smoking ban has been suggested as a way of protecting children from secondary cigarette smoke.
Lighting up in parks, shopping areas and beaches could also be banned under the proposals, suggested in a report.
A public consultation on the possible changes to smoking policies is due to run until 31 October.
A department spokesman said smoking was "one of the biggest causes of premature death and ill health in the island".
About 20% of the population smoke and health officials have blamed this high level of smoking for the higher than average rates of some cancers in the island.
Anyone flouting the ban already in place faces a fine of up to £5,000.
Martin Knight, senior public health officer, said the aim was to stop people taking up smoking in the first place.
He said: "There is evidence around role models and smoking, we know young people exposed to smoking behaviour are more likely to take up smoking themselves."
Mr Knight said based on the results of the public consultation the department could "extend the restriction on smoking laws, or look at voluntary approaches".
Senator Sarah Ferguson was among those to voice concern about a move to "dictate what you do in your own home".
