"Two Islanders Badly Injured In Snowstorm"

Snow chaos

TWO Islanders were seriously injured after being hit by a falling tree yesterday as Jersey was battered by the worst snowstorm in 24 years.
The pair both suffered suspected broken backs as they were struck by the tree on the Railway Walk during the height of the blizzard.
Several motorists were also injured when a tree fell on three cars outside the Shell Garden on Mont Les Vaux.
Roads were blocked, power lines were ripped down and much of the Island ground to a halt as the storm carpeted the Island in several inches of snow and drifts of more than ten feet.
Schools are closed and will remain so on Wednesday, and Jersey Airport has suspended flights until at least 2 pm on Wednesday. LibertyBus is running a very limited service.
The States Police have  launched a help line for members of the public to call. The number is 612777 from a landline, or 01534 612777 from a mobile phone.
Officers will be manning the lines until 11 pm today and again tomorrow, Wednesday, from 7 am until 10 pm.
