The trial continues today (Tues) of the former Jersey Centenier accused of child sex crimes.

77-year-old Ralph Cyril Mauger is accused of seven counts of indecent assault and one of inciting an act of gross indecency.

The charges related to three girls aged 6 to 14 and are alleged to have happened between 1998 and 2006 at a house in Grouville.

Today the cross examination of Witness A, by Advocate Stephen Baker, continues.

Yesterday the Royal Court heard how Witness A confronted Mauger about her allegations last year.

Today Advocate Baker tried to suggest there may have been a financial motivation for her doing so.

He said: "You're a person who likes the high life, the good things in life. Your friends think you like the high life."

Witness A said: "No."

The trial of the former Jersey Centenier accused of child sex crimes continued on Tuesday.

77 year old Ralph Cyril Mauger is accused of seven counts of indecent assault and one of inciting an act of gross indecency.

The charges related to three girls aged 6 to 14 and are alleged to have happened between 1998 and 2006 at a house in Grouville.

Today the cross examination of Witness A, by Advocate Stephen Baker, continues.

On Monday the Royal Court heard how Witness A confronted Mauger about her allegations last year.

On Tuesday Advocate Baker tried to suggest there may have been a financial motivation for her doing so.

He said: "You're a person who likes the high life, the good things in life. Your friends think you like the high life."

Witness A said: "No."

Witness B also gave evidence today. She was asked to describe what happened when she visited Mauger's house when she was 7 or 8 years old.

She said: "When we met he'd say hello and kiss. A peck on the cheek. Sometimes a proper kiss."

When asked by Crown Advocate Sarah Fitz what she meant, Witness B said, "he'd put his tongue in my mouth."

Under cross-examination, Advocate Stephen Baker suggested her memory was playing tricks. She denied that was the case.

Witness C also gave evidence today. The court heard her describe times she alleges he touched her by putting his hands under her top and the time she claims she saw him naked as he got out of a bath. She told the court he said: "do you want to touch it?" She said: "I never touched it", adding "he's old and fat and pervy."

Mauger denies all the charges and the case continues.

  1. There are a couple of comments which I am not going to post, the reason being that they are opinions and could be detrimental whilst the case is sub judice.
