Environment Minister Rob Duhamel at the launch at the Town Hall: ‘We have a whole barrage of simple alterations that people can make’

A NEW strategy aimed at cutting Jersey’s carbon footprint by 80 per cent in the next 40 years has been launched.

The Environment department has published a consultation paper that plans to reduce emission levels and secure the availability and affordability of energy. As part of the proposals Islanders could potentially be offered tax breaks if their homes are more environmentally friendly.

A third of the devised reductions are to come from improving the proficiency of existing homes but the director of environmental policy, Dr Louise Magris, is hopeful that financial incentives will not be necessary.
