"Lunatic Jersey Is Closed For Christmas!!!"

No Shops open on Christmas

All shops in Jersey will be closed on Christmas Day, so plan ahead is the advice.

This means you must be organised in time for Christmas as even the smaller shops which open for a few hours normally, are not allowed.

If your shop is bigger than 700 sq metres, you can't open on Boxing Day either.

The Comité des Connétables has issued this reminder of the change in law to all shop owners.

Chairman of the Comité des Connétables, John Gallichan, said, "The law applies to all shops and to businesses providing services. A permit cannot be granted to enable shops and businesses to open on Christmas Day."

  1. Back to the dark ages, Jersey has never left them really, no freedom of choice here!, if some shop wants to open for a few hours in the morning, then good luck to them, so what.
I have lost count of the amount of times visitors have asked me on a Sunday where they can have a "bet", I am not suggesting for a minute that all betting shops should be open, but one or two in St. Helier would be OK.
    I blame the Methodists myself!!!!
