Another person claiming to have been abused by Sir Jimmy Savile in Jersey has come forward, a lawyer says.

Solicitor Alan Collins said he was due to meet someone who said they had been molested by the television and radio presenter when they were living on the island.

He added that the individual had not been living in an island care home.

The latest claim brings the number of people who have said they were abused by the DJ to six.
Allegations 'taken seriously'
Mr Collins said he was contacted by the latest alleged victim "about a week ago".

He said: "Any potential victim coming forward is a pretty big step".

He added that victim had to be reassured that they were in control of the situation, and he had to "try and ascertain what the victim wants to achieve now they have come forward".

He said: "Their options include talking to police, and, if the victim is saying that they have been damaged, then they have a right to bring a civil claim for compensation.

"They are not compelled to contact police, but it would be a good idea if they did."

He added he was "sure" that Jersey Police were taking any allegations on the island seriously.

Jersey Police said they were in talks with the UK's Metropolitan Police Service and would not comment.

Savile was a regular visitor to the island and was Mr Battle of Flowers three times, the last time in 2002. He died last year aged 84.

British police believe he could have abused as many as 300 people over a 40-year period.

They have described him as a "predatory sex offender" and are following 400 lines of inquiry.
