Inspirational children who have faced major illness with courage or have selflessly devoted time to caring for others were in the spotlight at an awards ceremony on Saturday.

Variety, the children’s charity, staged their annual Child of the Year Awards at the Hotel de France where short clips of the lives of the 15 children and young people who were finalists were shown on film.
The charity had created a fantasy land setting for the finalists and their families who enjoyed a lunch and entertainment before the main winners were announced by the event’s chairman Sandra Auckland.
The overall winners, who received a total of £3,000 each, were 11-year-old George Llewellyn-Salaun and 15-year-old Leon Fromager. They received their awards from the Lieutenant-Governor Sir John McColl and Lady McColl.
