"Halloween Hits The High Street Along With Some Bailhache Independence!!!"

St John Ambulance milestone

The Duke of Gloucester (centre) leads a procession through King Street accompanied by St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft and the Deputy Bailiff, William Bailhache.
A NEW chapter for the St John Ambulance in Jersey was marked yesterday with a special ceremony at the Town Church attended by the Duke of Gloucester.

The Duke was in the Island in his capacity as the Grand Prior of the Order of St John and led the inauguration ceremony to mark the formation of the Bailiwick of Jersey as a dependent commandery of the Priory of England and the Islands, and as a separate entity from the UK.

The Jersey organisation became a separate legal entity on 18 June and is now able to better tailor its services for the local community.

The move also means that all money raised in Jersey will now be spent in the Island – a practice that had happened for a number of years but was not written down in law.
