"Some Hearty News"

Saved! Southampton children's heart unit

Children's heart surgery will continue at Southampton General Hospital.

The Children's Heart Surgery Unit, one of the country's best, had just a 1 in 4 chance of being selected as one of six specialist cardiac
centres.

Operations at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford had already been stopped with families they're backing Southampton's campaign.

At the moment, all children in the Channel Islands who need heart surgery go to Southampton.

Campaigners have been pleading their case and are tonight jubilant.

Jersey dad, Peter Vasse is in Southampton at the moment as his five-month-old son, Ethan, recovers from an operation on his heart.

He says the hospital saved his son's life, and wouldn't want him to be treated anywhere else.
