A DRINK-driver came close to killing his female passenger after he smashed into a lamppost and parked car while speeding along Victoria Avenue, a court heard on Monday.

Witnesses estimated that the uninsured 22-year-old was driving at up to 70 mph shortly before he lost control of his car at Bel Royal on 13 May and mounted the pavement.

The driver and a male front-seat passenger escaped serious injury, but the female passenger was in the back of the red Alfa Romeo, drifting in and out of consciousness, and had to be helped out by two passers-by before being taken to the Hospital, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

The defendant, of Stopford Road, was sentenced to 140 hours’ community service and banned from driving for 28 months after admitting driving dangerously, drink-driving and driving without insurance.

  1. Another Lotus Cover-up by the looks of things

  2. Harsh sentenses for drink drivers have reduced accidents in other places. They work. You don't see countries deciding to be more lenient with these things because that did not work. Community service should never be offered for this level of violation.

  3. Should have also made the Tw*t pay the £3,000 to repair the lampost instead of Jo taxpayer!

  4. I saw on Cover-up TV recently that Guernsey had the inquest into the death of an eastern European woman who died over there last year.
Yet we STILL haven't had resolution about the Lotus crash!

  6. Last we heard, Mr Lotus was due to appear in the Royal Court around the end of April, and that was the last anyone heard about it.

The tactic in these cases is to just keep stalling hoping that everyone gets fed up and forgets....but those days are long gone.

I do - the Lotus was 5 years old not 2, sorry couldn't resist.
Isn't the driver sharing a cell with Damian Rzeszowski, the hope is they will kill each other negating the need for extended accommodation at Hotel La Moye. If it fails they are going to ship in that fucking nutter Anders Behring Breivik although I understand he is only permitted to use plastic knives and forks so it could prove a challenge.

  8. The Green Island crash and the death of a young woman is now without doubt a truly disgusting example of the complete failure of any proper justice in this Island. Police officer Chris Beechey went too great lengths to assure the general public of this Island 'There is no coverup'...now two years on and still NO resolution to this terrible incident, WHY? what is it that is so terrible difficult that all the investigative powers of the SOJP and the Jersey court system find so hard to bring this matter to a close!!! If I were the parents of this young woman I would have long ago smashed down the doors of the 'so called' Royal Court simply to find out if anybody in there gives a shit!!

  9. Steady anon, there's a queue to smash those doors down :)

Respect your outrage though, wish the rest of the island had the courage of their own convictions, kindest regards Ian
