"Desperate Jersey"

Call for free flights to boost tourism

Could Deputy Tadier's idea - plus a little summer weather - mean packed beaches once again?

A HUGE lottery giveaway of 10,000 free flights to Jersey has been proposed to lure visitors back to the Island.

With the economy struggling and hoteliers expecting a grim year, Deputy Montfort Tadier has proposed a £1m flight giveaway through jersey.com to kickstart the tourism industry.

He says that with the average tourist spending £510 in hotels, restaurants, shops and bars during their visit, the project could create millions of pounds’ worth of business for struggling firms.

Deputy Tadier’s proposal came during a debate to open up the Tourism Development Fund to applications from companies.

That move – approved by an overwhelming 37 to four margin in the States on Tuesday afternoon – extends the fund from supporting the States or non-profit sectors and enables businesses to pitch for pound-for-pound funding.

  1. Montfort...best use for a million quid I have heard in ages...we squander more than that every month in backhanders and hiring and letting go useless knob heads.

  2. Free flight to Jersey , and then ???

Sit on the beach in the rain, walk town in the evening amongst the drunks and foul mouthed young yobs, Then back to over priced Hotel or guest house , to watch Corrie and Eastenders then to bed as there is nothing else to do in over priced rip off Jersey.
    No thanks I´ll stay home.
