Duty free dodging hits record levels

RECORD numbers of Islanders trying to cash in on cheap duty-free alcohol and cigarettes are being caught by Customs importing more than their allowances.

Border officials say they are seeing more and more people ‘clearly and openly’ breaking duty free limits at the Airport and Harbour.

Seizures of cigarettes went up by 50% last year, with Customs officers impounding and destroying 214,000 cigarettes and 70 kilos of tobacco.

Mindless Waste

The cigarettes alone represent about £70,000, coupled with the tobacco, God knows how much more?

And what do these morons do? Burn it all!!!

And how much alcohol seized? Why no mention of that I wonder?

Why not sell it off cheap to the public and give the proceeds to
Jersey Hospice Care!

Would that be to intelligent for Jersey???
