A GIANT of Jersey’s trade union movement in the 1970s and 1980s has died.

Tributes have been paid to René Liron, who died this week, and who was for many years the head of the Transport and General Workers’ Union, now known as Unite.

Mr Liron was a prominent and vocal figure in Island life, who was made an OBE, awarded the Bailiff’s Medal for his union work and whose portrait was one of the first to be featured in the Jersey Heritage Trust’s portrait collection at the Jersey Museum.

  5. There is no comparison between Rene Liron and Nick Corbel.

Rene did what he knew was right. Nick does what he is told to do, and because he will not move with the times.
    Will not survive much longer.
