"Idiot Jersey - 609 Cases Investigated - Tens Of Thousands Down The Pan"

Plenty of complaints –but no prosecutions

Plenty of complaints –but no prosecutions

ENVIRONMENTAL health officers have investigated 609 ‘complaints and inquiries’ about people breaking the smoking ban in the past five years.

However, no one has yet been prosecuted under the law (its NOT LAW) which came into force on 2 January 2007.
On that date, lighting up was outlawed in all enclosed workplaces and businesses were required to put up signs warning people not to smoke. To date, 1,800 signs have been given out by the Health department.

The introduction of the law coincided with a new emphasis on helping people to kick their tobacco addiction.
Around 1,500 people a year now approach the Health department to ask about getting help.
