THE former head of Jersey’s lifeguard service has failed in an attempt to bring unfair dismissal proceedings against the States.

Paul Berghouse, who had worked as a Jersey lifeguard since 1978, lodged claims for unfair dismissal as well as for notice and redundancy payments after he lost his job when the States transferred the service to the RNLI early last year.

But an employment tribunal panel ruled that Mr Berghouse had not submitted his claim in time, and the case was dismissed before a full hearing was held.

Under the law, Islanders must lodge their case within eight weeks of losing their job.

This is a real disgrace the man has served the island saving lives and does not get proper redundancy yet we pay kings ransoms for failures to go...like pollard,Izatt, Ogley people who could not cut it,with bad track records get rewarded and this guy gets railroaded out of a meagerly paid job after a life time service this island is just so sick.
