"Corruption Tried By The Corrupt!"

Multi-million bribes case heads for Royal Court

Paulo Maluf

A MULTI-MILLION dollar fraud case against the former Mayor of Sao Paulo could be about to reach Jersey’s Royal Court after five years of wrangling and delays.

Brazilian prosecutors say that Paulo Maluf took bribes and construction kickbacks amounting to US$344m during his time as mayor of the Brazilian city in the 1990s.

And now the Brazilian government are going after just over ten million dollars frozen in Jersey accounts – they say the money represents bribes, secret commissions and other fraudulent payments.

The civil case is listed in court papers as The Federal Republic of Brazil and the Municipality of Sao Paulo against Durant International Corporation and Kildare Finance Limited, with Deutsche Bank described as a ‘party cited’.
