Here be pirates!
THE Island’s newest Jurat – former Jersey Electricity chief executive Mike Liston – was sworn in by the Royal Court yesterday.

Mr Liston addressed a packed public gallery, the Lieutenant-Governor, Sir John McColl, his fellow Jurats, court officials and the Bailiff, Michael Birt, as he spoke of his pride and sense of responsibility about his new role.

‘I’m not unaccustomed to public speaking but I’m more used to giving after-dinner speeches,’ he said. ‘I’m not used to an audience which is so intelligent, well-refined, well-educated and sober.’

Mr Liston added that he owed much to Lesley, his wife of more than 30 years, and to his many friends in the Island.
