Assault on schoolgirl


Police are hunting a man suspected of assaulting an 11-year-old as she walked home from school.

The incident is said to have happened in a field behind FCJ School around 4.00pm on Tuesday, as the schoolgirl was walking alone from Grainville School towards Grand Vaux.

Police say the man grabbed the girl by the arm, but that she was able to run off, knocking him to the ground as she fled.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have been in or around the area and may have seen the alleged suspect to contact them.

He is described as being in his 20’s, around 6ft, wearing black tracksuit bottoms and a black hooded sweatshirt

Detective Inspector Gary Pashley said: "We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the alleged incident, or may have any information to assist the inquiry, to contact us. In particular, we would also like to hear from a cyclist who may have been in, or close to the playing field around the time of the incident, and who is described as wearing a helmet, cycling outfit and sunglasses."

Investigating officers are in the area near Grainville School today in an effort to piece together what may have happened, and to seek any additional information about the incident.
