Liga Verse death: Police say 'good progress' made
Police have told Channel Television that they are making good progress on the investigation into the death of a young mother in the Bordage.
The body of Liga Verse was discovered in the flat in St Peter Port 12 weeks ago, sparking a major police inquiry.
Until now, the cause of her death has remained a mystery, but now it seems that the investigation is drawing to a close.
Liga - who was originally from Latvia, was discovered in her flat. Her death has sparked a major investigation, which is still ongoing, nearly three months later.
Soon after her body was discovered, senior officers told the public this was an extremely complex case. Forensic teams gathered evidence, a series of tests were carried out by experts, and two post mortems took place.
Liga's friends, family, and the island as a whole has been waiting to find out just what caused her death.
Now it seems that wait is nearly over because Channel Television has learned police are now submitting a comprehensive file to Guernsey's law officers.
It is hoped that will, in turn, allow for an inquest to be held into Liga Verse's death.
With all of the forensic examinations and post-mortems carried out, police say they now have a number of reports from professional and expert witnesses.
And importantly they have also told us that a man, released on police bail back in August, has now been discharged from his bail.
Once the inquest is held, it is hoped islanders, especially those who knew Liga, will learn why and how she died, and hopefully find some degree of closure.
