The new man at Government House
JERSEY’S new Lieutenant-Governor says he is very excited to be moving to the Island and cannot wait to get stuck into the role.
General Sir John McColl and his wife, Gene, who have three grown-up children, are due to move into Government House later this month.
The 59-year-old former Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan is due to be officially sworn in by the Royal Court on 26 September. A number of his family, including his children, his mother and his sister and brother-in-law, will be in the Island for the event, which will be followed by a service at St Paul’s Church and a special States sitting the following day.
Speaking to the JEP in London this week, Sir John said he had spent the last six months learning more about Jersey in preparation for the move. As well as reading the JEP, he has spoken to a number of former Lieutenant-Governors, including his predecessor, Sir Andrew Ridgway, and has read various books about the Island, its history, culture and politics.
