"The Medical Gravy Train Rumbles On"
THERE has been a dramatic rise in the number of hospital consultants earning more than £100,000 a year, new figures show.
Excluding pension costs, 67 consultants crossed the threshold in 2010 compared to 46 the year before. Of those, 26 individuals earned the same or more than their highest-paid equivalent in 2009.
The figures released by the States Employment Board also reveal that the States’ top earner, understood to be the Bailiff, Michael Birt, earned between £290,000 and £309,999, including pension costs.
