FURIOUS Jersey Gas customers claim they are being cheated after being forced to pay five per cent GST on bills dating back to March.
An estimated 600 customers have been charged the higher rate on their entire last quarter bill – even though the tax only increased ten days ago.
Thousands of others whose quarter started later in the month will also face the higher than expected charges for some of their bill.
The firm claims it was unable to apply the lower GST rate to gas used before the two per cent rise on 1 June because it is undergoing a change in computing system.
Paul Garlick, managing director of Jersey Gas, apologised to customers and admitted that the higher GST charge was an ‘unfortunate consequence’ of the computer change over.
