STATES Members will tomorrow demand to know why hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money was paid in golden handshakes to two senior civil servants.
In a week when the States will also be asked to make everyday people work longer by raising the pension age and delay cuts to fee-paying schools which would force parents to pay more, a barrage of questions will be directed at Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, who has so far refused to confirm or deny the pay-offs.
And with Islanders still coming to terms with last week’s increase in GST and reports of an increasingly disillusioned atmosphere in the House, Members have pledged not to accept a wall of silence on the matter.
