"The Church Finally Gets Something Right"
Churches ‘don’t want same-sex marriage ceremonies’
The Dean, the Very Rev Bob Key
THE majority of churches would not want to host civil partnership ceremonies, the Dean of Jersey said yesterday.
The Very Rev Bob Key was giving evidence to a Scrutiny panel that is examining the details of the proposed new law, before it is debated in the States on 5 July.
Asked by the Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny panel if he would support removing a clause in the draft law that ruled out allowing religious buildings to host ceremonies for same-sex couples, Mr Key said that he would prefer marriage ceremonies in churches to remain ‘traditional’.
